Welcome Surf Zone, Cape Town, South Africa
HISTORY OF SURF ZONEBorn from a deep love of the sport and the vibrant energy of a growing surf industry, Surf Zone was the logical step for Gigs Celliers, already a World Kneelo champ and current springbok surf team captain at the time, to showcase the healthy and fast changing image of the worlds most exciting and healthy sport...
1995 also happened to be the year the newly formed surf of new pier was drawing together the best of the countries exponents in the surf line up of spitting tubes and perfect walls, creating an energy centre for some of the best surfing in the world. The now extinct coffee and Surf Zone Shop, new pier would house and birth the surf careers of most every hot surfer including the Jordy Smith phenom. by 2002 SA would win the World Amateur Team title and Travis Logie and Warwick Wrights World Titles capped off an incredible era... by then Surf Zone had already expanded to capture an International standard of surf shop in the Mother City CBD. As Big Wave Surfing and Dungeons grew into the limelight so did the Surf Zone influence, with Jason Ribbink and Gigs Celliers breaking open the tow surfing exposure and riding the Biggest Wave in Africa in 2004.
2009 sees the start of the next chapter in Surf Zone history with the flagship store at Big Bay capturing every aspect of Ocean involvement, from surfing to kite boarding, skim boarding to body boarding, surf schools and lessons and the latest sport of stand up paddle surfing with Gigs Celliers being crowned the first ever WP SUP CHAMP.
With the roots in the spirit of the Ocean, shops at 207 Long Street (Cape Town CBD) and Beachfront Big Bay... Surf Zone understands that the happiest place to be is in the water... in the surf zone...
